DAY 2, Tuesday - After our arrival in Tel Aviv, we meet our guide for the Holy Land. We head north along the Mediterranean coast toward Caesarea, once the capital of the Roman province, where we visit the Roman and Crusader remains including the ancient theatre and Hippodrome. We visit the harbor from which St. Paul was taken prisoner of Rome. We drive to the fertile valley, known as the plain of Megiddo, which has been the scene of horrible carnage and almost constant strife. The excavations at Megiddo have uncovered a fortified city built by Solomon. We continue to Nazareth where Jesus spent his early life and to Tsipori (Sepphoris) where Jesus and Joseph probably worked as carpenters. We continue to our lodgings at the Sea of Galilee for dinner and overnight. LD
DAY 3, Wednesday - After breakfast at our hotel, we visit Tabgha to view the mosaic of the Loaves and Fishes and to celebrate Holy Eucharist. We visit Capernaum and St. Peter’s House. Next, we board a boat reminiscent of those used in Jesus’ time and sail across the Sea of Galilee. We visit the Mount of Beatitudes where we rehear the Sermon on the Mount and have an opportunity to hike down to the Sea. We then visit the Museum that holds the boat, found in the mud of the sea, which dates to the time of Jesus. We have dinner and overnight at the Sea. BLD
DAY 4, Thursday - This morning, we visit Mount Tabor and then continue to Jericho, the oldest human settlement in the world. From the vantage point of the site in Jericho, we have a spectacular view of the “Mount of Temptation.” Driving up to Jerusalem, we view the setting for the parable of the Good Samaritan and St. George’s Greek Orthodox Monastery, literally carved out of a cliff. We see the Dead Sea and continue to Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found before continuing into Jerusalem. Once we arrive in this Holy City, we find a site high above on Mount Zion or the Mount of Olives in order to orient ourselves. Then it’s on to the hotel for dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. BLD
DAY 5, Friday - We begin our day with a visit to the area of the famous golden domed Dome of the Rock and continue to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall known as the Wailing Wall. We walk together to the Temple Mount Dig to see the excavated stones where Jesus walked. We meet our coach and driver and travel to Bethlehem for lunch at Two Mustaches, a wonderful Arab restaurant. Afterward, we visit the Church of the Nativity and Shepherd’s Field before returning to Jerusalem where we go to The Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, also known as the House of Caiaphas. We have dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. BLD
DAY 6, Saturday - We visit Dominus Flevit, the Church of the Agony and the Cave of the Olive Press. Next, we walk the Via Dolorosa, beginning at Antonio’s Fortress, winding through the busy markets of the Old City and stopping at the Stations of the Cross. We end our walk at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, scene of the Crucifixion and site of the Tomb. We enjoy some free time to wander the streets of the Old City before we meet for our farewell dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. BLD
DAY 7, Sunday, February 14, 2021 - We depart from the Tel Aviv airport for our return to the United States (TBD). BM
