Day 1, Sunday, June 16, 2019– Depart Richmond, VA on our Delta Airlines flight into Atlanta, GA where we change planes and connect to our trans-Atlantic flight on Delta Airlines into London Heathrow Airport. M
Day 2, Mon. – Arrive at the London Heathrow Airport, meet our guide and continue to our waiting coach. We transfer to central London where we will see the Tower Bridge and visit the Tower of London which is guarded by the Beefeaters and contains the crown jewels. This afternoon we will enjoy a ride on the London Eye for a bird’s-eye view of the city. Dinner and overnight London. D
Day 3, Tues. - After breakfast, we enjoy a guided panoramic sightseeing tour. We see Buckingham Palace, home of the Queen, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. We visit St. Paul’s Cathedral, the great Gothic building which was designed by Sir Christopher Wren to replace the medieval cathedral destroyed in the fire of 1666. We will climb to the top of the world-famous Dome. The rest of the day we will be free to explore on our own in small groups with a chaperone. Dinner and overnight London. BD
Day 4, Wed. – Morning departure for the ‘Viking City’ of York known in times-gone-by as Yorvik. We visit York Minster, the largest Gothic church in England and seat of the Archbishop of York, second only to the Archbishop of Canterbury in the hierarchy of the Church of England. The tour will include The Shambles, a perfectly preserved medieval street with half-timbered stores and houses. This afternoon there will be some time to explore on our own in small groups with chaperones. Dinner and overnight York. BD
Day 5, Thurs. – Our journey continues to Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island. The island has been inhabited since the Iron Age and Christianity was brought to the island by St. Aidan when he established a monastery here in AD 635. St. Aidan came from Iona where he was a monk in the monastery founded there by St. Columba. St. Aidan was not the first person on Lindisfarne, but his is the first known name mentioned in relation to the island. Under its greatest Abbot, Cuthbert, Lindisfarne became one of the greatest centers of learning in Christendom. We visit Lindisfarne Priory and have time for reflection and prayer in this quiet, holy place. We continue to Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, for dinner and overnight. BD

Day 6, Fri. – Today we explore Edinburgh. We visit St. Giles Cathedral, the historic City Church of Edinburgh which is located on the Royal Mile between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, home to the royal family when they are in Edinburgh. We explore Edinburgh Castle where the views from the Battlement are breathtaking. We will see St. Margaret’s Chapel, Queen Mary’s Apartments, and the Crown Room. Time permitting this afternoon we are free to explore on our own in small groups with a chaperone. Dinner and overnight in Edinburgh. BD
Day 7, Sat. – Early morning departure to the historic coastal town of St. Andrews, home of the third-oldest university in the English-speaking world. We tour the town, including the Cathedral and Castle, learning the historical connections to John Knox and the Protestant thinker and preacher, George Wishart, who were martyred here. Time permitting, we will explore in small groups with a chaperone before returning to Edinburgh for dinner and overnight. BD
Day 8, Sunday, June 23, 2019 – Morning departure for Edinburgh Airport where we board our Delta Airlines flight to New York’s JFK Airport where we transfer to our Delta Airlines flight back to the Richmond, VA Airport. B
